Chuck Nwoke joined Poly Prep’s English Department in 2022, teaching Middle School students. He is committed to inspiring students to be open minded and curious, to think critically and empathically, and to grow intellectually and emotionally as world citizens. Chuck received his BA in Humanities from University of Houston and an MFA in Writing from Pratt Institute, and comes to Poly with 15 years of experience in NYC’s various school systems as a teacher, administrator, basketball coach, and as a parent to two young children. Published widely, he was nominated for Best of the Net 2017 (Fiction) and won the London Magazine 2018 Short Story Prize. His stories and essays examine the nuances of race, identity, culture, social constructs, and the human condition, speaking to a generation of readers who understand what it means to exist in multiple worlds simultaneously. A sponsored skateboarder in his past life, he is an avid runner and surfer. When reading, nothing captures his attention more than a good music biography. Basketball is his sport of choice.
